Methodology in plain English

How Property Identity works

Identity says which property the record concerns. Sources say where information came from. Authority says who may change or publish it.

What this means in practice

Those questions stay separate so a useful match is not mistaken for proof and private operational information is not mistaken for a public statement.

1. Identify

The service assigns a stable Property Identity and can attach address or UPRN references. A match may be confident without proving ownership or title.

2. Attribute

Facts and evidence keep their source, relevant date and verification state. Unknown or unreviewed information stays clearly labelled.

3. Correct

Authorised users can amend information while preserving the earlier version and the reason for change.

4. Publish deliberately

Users preview proposed public fields and publish only with explicit organisational authority. Publication can later be withdrawn.
